It’ll be a good job when the Police  — or someone — get rid of both. I favour a hard line in the way of punishments. Death for murder, death for Rape, death for carrying a gun (because there must be an intention to use it) and death to all drug dealers. It’s the only way to get the message across that they’re not wanted.

I must agree that anyone who is found carrying a gun should be executed but i would except life in prison because the left wingers will ensure the death penalty will never be brought back,one crime which wasn,t mentioned which should be given a much harder sentence is causing death whilst in charge of a motor vehicle whist druck,these [censored] kill innocent people just because they are lazy to the point they carn't walk or wait for a bus or cab

Bluemooner — In the case of death by dangerous driving, if they don’t stop at the scene and simply drive off — I think I’d advocate a MINIMUM sentence of 10 years in prison — not 10 years and out in five.

It is a fact that illegal/banned firearms are ridiculously easy to get hold of . . . in many urban, inner city areas its easier than buying sweets.

Some teenage boys (and it is mainly boys) get a sense of virility and masculinity by brandishing these weapons in their neighbourhoods and in their schools.  Its supported by the Hip Hop, gangsta and thug lifestyle promoted by what passes for artistry in our modern-day music industry.

Throw in easy money from drugs and hey presto . . . you have the perfect mixture for destroyng communities and neighbourhoods.

Whats the answer ?  ?

The US has tried the village_idiot approach . . . their prisons have developed into an industrial complex and their inner city areas are virtually no-go areas . . .

Their much publicized "ZERO TOLERANCE" policy has had a limited impact in the overall level of crime and the existence of the death penalty in many US states has only exposed the inadequacies of their judicial system and society : most people on death row are poor and black

There are many recorded cases of untrained/unqualified junior lawyers being provided by the state as attorneys that are incapable of mounting a defence for their clients.

THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO GO.  THIS IS BRITAIN - WE ARE BETTER THAN THIS.

These kids lack a purpose in life - they need to be given clear goals in life  . . . academic, sporting, community and art.  We need to to invest in culture - museums, libraries, theatres and sport.

This has got to be better than shooting them.  Although, I must admit - shooting is actually too good for some people.

That's true Teleny. I read an article in a newspaper earlier this year. As an experiment the paper arranged that some school girls have an imaginary company to import arms from international dealers overseas. The girls could have purchased sufficient to blow Manchester apart .. the dealers asked no questions ... so long as the cash was available to them the arms were available whenever they were required.

There are lots of War situations throughout the world .. and lots of disreputable dealers.
