Abbott, Yates - early 1800's - Manchester

My G,G,G,G Grandfather was William Abbott of Manchester. He married Frances Yates in 1821 at Cathedral in Manchester. His father was Thomas and Mother name was Beatrice?. Frances Father was Matthew Yates and Mother was Sarah? William was a textile worker. I'm trying find out more about the parents or infromation of both Thomas Abbott and Matthew Yates. Willaim and his son John Abbott both immigrated to Philadelphia, USA in the 1840's.

There would be immigration lists to search for the USA information you require and various sources of Parish records in the U.K. to pinpoint

I'm sure someone here will be able to take this further for you

Dates are important in sifting through large numbers of records that otherwise can be cumbersome

....also vitally important, especially in the case of the U.K. side of the family is the general idea of where in the country the relatives lived (to locate where they can be traced through specific Parish records)

This is just my guess, I may be wrong but I suspect we need to narrow things down a little further to make any sensible progress .....

Do you have any idea where Thomas Abbott lived ? presumably in Manchester as a starting point ?

My G, G, G, Grandfather, John Abbott, was born on January 24th, 1822 he was baptized at St Augustines R C Church on Grandby Row. All the Abbott's were Weavers, Carders in the textile industry. They did the same thing in Philadelphia.

 Were St Augustines on Grandby row near any Textile mills??
 I understand it no longer exist?

....it can't be too difficult to locate textile mills at around that date, I'll try in a day or so when I have more time

There would have been many mills and mill warehouses in that area and Granby Row Filelds were used to stage protests at workers conditions of labour

 F Y I - John Abbott imagrated to Philadelphia via New York City in 1842!
John had traveled without any other Abbotts.

I do not know when his father William arrived? I never found him living with his son in Philadelphia and his wife, I assume, Died in England. William is buried  in his son's plot.

With William Abbott marrying Frances Yates in 1821 @ Manchester cathedral and John being baptised @ St Augustines the question I have is: Were they located far from each other and would textile workers live near them??

As for mills in manchester I can only suggest looking at a reference such as the following :

Thanks for the advice. I'm not famillar with the area as I'm a life long Philadelphian.
I appreciate the advice and any help.

One other question I have is the fact that the Abbott's and Yate's being Catholic point out anything in that era? (late 1700's early 1800's)
I have an Aunt who thinks the Abbott's origianted from Scotland. I have no way of confirming that!
