hio chinchilla,
Your complaint must be frustrating but can't you get redress from small claims court action ?
I am currently looking at this. I don't really have time at the moment, however there is an online small claims system that may prove useful in this situation.
I wonder what cost to actually replace a few tiles anyway ?
It doesn't seem very much beyond a DIY job
If it was just a few tiles then yes, that would be the case, however this person has done much more than just remove a few tiles. Their lack of skill appears to have resulted in the removal of the rest of the materials behind the tiles revealing the brickwork. We've been told that this may mean the whole wall has to be stripped and redone before it can even be tiled. If that's the case then it's a much longer job, more costly and something I certainly don't have the ability to do.
That's part of the reason I'm so mad, this person hasn't just left me in the lurch and cost my wife 3 days holiday needlesly, he's also damaged my wall costing me more expenditure and increasing the amount of work that needs doing compared to the first lot of work!
Your local builders merchants could probably give you the name of a few plasterer's then claim on your household insurance if all else fails
Claiming on my house insurance will cost me though. There's the excess and the increased premium when it comes to renew. Does that seem fair that this person has cost me money due to their own neglegence and the fact they ran out of the house instead of doing the work?
Infact get the whole thing costed to include any dodgy areas that company 'DODO' are baulking at and tell the insurance company covering your property that work needs doing, give two or three quotes and you should be winning !!

Again it would cost me for their cockup.
I'll have a think about my next move over the next few days, but in the mean time hopefully I've saved others this problem and if the paper gets back to me re my email about the event then I may be able to get the message out to many more people.
