Victoria West, Leigh
« on: 08:19:06, 30/09/08 »
Good morning,
This is my first posting on this site, so here goes.

Can anyone give me details of exactly where the above address was or still is ?

I believe a relative was living at 18 Victoria West Leigh in 1897. Having remarried her surname is unknown.

regards

Peter

Hello & welcome Peter. I am sorry no one seems to be able to answar your question on here. I have looked at all the old maps i have but none of them cover Leigh  :(
Maybe your question might be better placed on there own forum ( not that we would like to lose you from the Manchester forum) As they have a genealogical section too.

This is my first posting too.  If you are researching Leigh, the library there do a great job.  There is a genealogy forum for Leigh at the liverpool-genealogy.org.uk.  Try them, they are very helpful.

Is Little Leigh connected to Leigh?

No, there is no Little Leigh.  However, I think you are looking for Westleigh which is a district of Leigh.  There is a Victoria Street, in Westleigh.  Hope this is helpful.

I'm thinking of the Little Leigh in Cheshire, there is a website there (used to be a forum at one time)

Hi,  I think the best way you can find out about who was living at 18 Victoria Street, Westleigh, Leigh is to try and make it to the next meeting of the Leigh family history group.  It is next Tuesday, 21 October at Leigh Library, in the Derby Room and starts at 7.30.  The topic next week is 'Help Evening' so should be just what you are looking for.

The help desk at the library is also open every Monday afternoon.

Hope this is of help.  Best of luck in your search.  Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for all your suggestions & help. The local library was a great help and I eventually found Census returns including my ancestors.

Cheers
