Public facilities
« on: 06:02:44, 02/08/09 »

It was many years ago that I was able to go around town and the periphery area, without any fear of being “caught-short” without the need to call in to a pub or café to use the toilet.

Now I notice that many of the public lavatories have been closed down.

Should there be more public toilets spread around?  Cost of cleaning should not come into the question. This could be minimised and organised so that it would be looked after by the defaulters carrying out their Community Service.

Bearing in mind that it is the aged and children that are the most likely to need them

Are there enough public lavatories spread around?

I don't really like using them, I prefer to use the ones in Marks & Spencer, or another large store, I used the one in McDonalds yesterday.

I have noticed the loos in some big stores need checking though.

There should definately be more public loos in Manchester - I often end up going into bars and Macdonalds just to use the loos which they understandably frown on - I hate places like train stations that charge you for use of the loos - There are also those odd open air urinals they put out in Piccadilly of a night - they hide them during the day as too many people complain about kids seeing men using them - more loos will stop people taken short feeling obliged to use back allies and side streets etc

good food, healthy digestion, sitting on the loo before going out might help as well

If i'm out for 12 hours plus, drinking isn't usually an issue - pubs have loos anyway - the worst is waiting for buses for 30 minutes or more with no loos within easy reach - some buildings have lous loos as well, namelythe Arndale Centre, Trafford Centre, and the worst - Central Library - the loos there are always closing for cleaning when you need them - there's a public loo at the town hal and I sometimes use that instead of the library ones - the city provision of loos is a joke.

well if drinking isn't the matter, so what's then? if everything's okay with a man, he has to go only once a day :)

No idea where you get that statistic from - clearly nonsense though - most people use the loo 4 -6 times a day - obviously consuming pints instead of wines & spirits will necessitate increased visits but rationing yourself to one ablution per day is not likely to be any good for you.

I meant numbers two not ones. once a day is a normal for a human being, if you got pints during the day - get rid of them at the same place :)

moving the goal-posts to change the criteria there, aren't you? What you need the loo for is irrelevent - you need the facilities for a variety of reasons - you might need to use a public toilet facility to wash your hands, especially after eating - they are supposed to have running water though it's often cold - open air urinals never do.  Somtimes if going on to an evening out i'll use loos as a place to get changed into fresh clothes too - public loos are essential and we have too few - that's all there is to it.

No idea why you refer to me as fragile - or why you find such a comment amusing enough to regard as a joke - do explain.

stop it, stop it !!  ::)

Free Public facilities are being closed down owing to cut-backs in local borough spending I suspect

It's a shame as the old Victorian examples should be elevated to conservation worthiness
Funny to think that Victorians were ashamed of bodily functions and the first public toilets were only for men

(then again Victorians covered up the legs of piano's in case they seemed too sexy)
 :crazy2:
