I remember well during the early thirties when, during the summer holidays, we would be taken to the aerodrome for a picnic. Sitting on the grass and enjoying our soggy cheese and tomato sandwiches and tea from a thermos flask. Yea tastes so different out in the fresh air!
In those austere days it surely was a treat, which did not happen very often, after all it was something like a two miles walk each way.
What I remember most was watching the hovering skylarks and listening to their constant twittering.
I often wonder if their presence is still so obvious, does anybody reading this, know? And whether we would now be allowed to sit on the grass there?
