Quote from Dorothy:

The sport continues to please the public while some of the dogs, unfortunately have to suffer the consequences of accidents on the track. With the soaring cost of vet bills, it is easy to see why some prefer to euthanize the dog rather than to try to get it healthy enough to race ( depending on how bad the cuts etc., are) or be adopted.
I think one writer had the right idea that those who put their dogs in the sport, should have a "user" fee to be used to help get these dogs to be adopted after they no longer are making their owners a profit.

It's the bookmakers who are making most of the money. I read somewhere that some dogs are turned out into the street with their ears cut off so they can't be identified by their tattoo number. Also, I read that they are pumped full of drugs to enhance their  performance or make them run through the pain barrier. At licensed tracks they are at least dope tested and there is a vet on hand, at 'flapping tracks' this is not the case.

Are 'flapping tracks' ever checked by the authorities?

Not sure, but they are legal. I have no problem with the racing and there are good owners and trainers I think. it's the ones who do not provide the vet care and a good retirement that I think should be made accountable.

The ear thing.   .......Yuck !!!!!!!
To get at the bookmakers then it would have to be made law that they too have a user fee.

Actually bel I'm very squeamish, I cannot watch any animal film which is sad, though because I am sensitive to things like that it does make me a strong supporter of the PDSA

I know how you feel, someone sent me something about a seal cull, asking for my signature. I could not bring myself to watch that either. I'm wishing I had not seen the dog one too.
