Just had occasion to look up Harrogate forum where there have been no messages for a MONTH!  Reasonably prosperous community, must have computers and internet galore — but nobody seems to bother with it. Same in Bury!

Could it be that the richer the community, the less time they have for forums? Is their time taken up with work, or could it be that they don’t enjoy mixing words with riff-raff like ME!

That note about day trips to Halifax reminds me of a particular April 1st when we put a spoof quiz in the newspaper I then worked for, offering a first prize of a weekend in Burnley, a second prize of two weekends in Burnley, and a third prize of an entire week in Burnley.
You’d been surprised at the shoal of letters we got from hopeful prize-winners!

A Forum I am on, mainly with Americans :(, call people that just read posts and don't contribute 'Lurkers'. We had quite a thread going with people complaining about this term. (Never found out what 'The Lurkers' thought 'cos they just continued to 'Lurk'! 8)

Start something like that on Sheffield Forum and before you  know where you are there are hundreds devouring it and arguing like mad before turning to insults. Meanwhile, the OP is probably laughing his/her head off.

Trouble is, there’s not many gladiators left — certainly not in Manchester.
