Screen typeface fading

Has anyone experience their screen typeface gradually fading?  If I turn the laptop off for a while it's ok

I'm told I'm logging off wrongly - it's been ok up to now though, seems I have to press the start and then log off when the window appears instead of logging off on the top right place on the keyboard
