Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign
« on: 14:40:52, 26/10/06 »
The aim of the Greater Manchester Cycling Campaign is to make cycling in Greater Manchester quicker, safer, easier and more enjoyable. If you are a cyclist join the GMCC for their Critical Commute on Friday 27th October starting outside the Withington Library at 8.15am. They'll be riding up Oxford Road to the Central Library, at which point there’ll be a press launch of GMCC’s own high visibility gilet.

I'm glad you had a laugh peterw. Laughter is good for the health.

I feel  cyclists think about road safety issues more seriously than aggressive, ignorant, irresponsible motorists.

I don't drive or ride a cycle - (so my view is without bias) - I along with millions of others are coming to the sad conclusion that the motor vehicle is blighting the lives of all of us  . . . (whether we like to admit it or not) . . . and it is high time we did something about it.

The bus deregulation has not been a success and I think the metrolink system needs to be expanded far more before we start cleaning up the streets of inner Manchester . . . (and the country for that matter).

So, please, no laughing at christopher - we have to consider all options OTHER THAN THE MOTOR VEHICLE!

It doesn’t matter when you’re out and about or where you are, it is rare to see a cyclist wearing  — on cycle and him/herself — everything they should be. And most don’’t even both to use the cycle lanes! As a journalist I once wrote an article on the road sense of cyclists — most of whom came down on me like a ton of bricks! Then blow me, just one week after publication I saw one on his way to a cycle meet, and just a little bit late, cycle through TWO sets of red lights.

I think the adjectives you’ve used admirably fit both car drivers and cyclists.

There are cyclists and cyclists peterw. Whenever I see members of cycling clubs out in a large group they tend to be wearing the correct safety items as do parents cycling with their children.

Could we not have a system similar to Holland - bikes are available for use at designated points and one can go from A to B and return the bike!?

I thinks its free, too!

that could be a good idea TELENY, as there seem to be more and more bikes being stolen

Never allow the worst people in society to sway you from doing what is right . . . I'm sure that the bikes could be made more secure, yet, available to people when they need them.

I have been a member of a cycling /triathlon club for many many years now
It never ceases to amze me how many times i see people riding their bikes without the required protective head gear (its against the law here in Aussie not to wear one )
It allso never ceases to amaze me how many times i have seen a motorist totaly disregard the cyclist and then endanger that persons life
Nope it never ceases to amaze me what a selfish inconsiderate bunch of people cyclists and motorists are

I got bowled over a few years ago by a guy with a trailer on the back of his car it cost me a lot of money to replace my very expensive bike and it physicaly cost me a lot of spilt blood and torn skin
This guy never even stopped to see if i was ok yet he knew he had bowled me over because his passenger was leaning out the window shouting abuse at me for being on the road where he wanted to be
On the other hand i ride with 50 other cyclists most days of the week
We have a car at the front with its lights flashing and we have a trail car doing the same
we are not allowed to ride more than two abreast

Cyclists and motorists need to wake up to them selves
Good health to yas all

They do we can even ride on the freeways here (motorways )
When you see some of the drivers i am talking about it makes me wonder just what these [censored] have got in their heads
And not to blame the motorist all the time i see people on bikes in groups of 5 abreast just riding and chatting totaly oblivious of the fact that they are causing an obstruction
Its called i am allright screw you jack
Thats what is wrong with people today
Good health to yas
