Gareth Barry will make the plane to South Africa - but England boss Fabio Capello has dropped Theo WalcottBarry passed a fitness test early on Tuesday morning, a huge boost for Capello who was struggling to find a replacement for the Aston Villa player in midfield.
He could even feature in England's opening Group C fixture against the USA, and will definitely be fit for the Slovenia and Algeria matches, and, if the Three Lions qualify, the latter stages of the tournament.
The 29-year-old will be joined in England's World Cup campaign by fellow midfielder Joe Cole, who impressed Capello during a second-half appearance against Japan.
Manchester United player Michael Carrick also makes the grade, despite speculation that he might be axed.
Stephen Warnock, as cover for Ashley Cole at left back, is chosen over Leighton Baines, while other fringe contenders Shaun Wright-Phillips and Aaron Lennon get the nod.
However Walcott, who was a shock choice for the last World Cup, was a surprise absentee from Capello's 23-man squad.
The Arsenal forward didn't make the cut despite scoring a hat-trick against Croatia during qualifying.

On a day of speculation - and often farcical scenes as news outlets picked up on journalists revealing who was in or out of the squad on twitter - millions knew by lunchtime the identity of the six other players who were not going to South Africa.
But it took the FA until 4pm to officially announce that Tom Huddlestone, Darren Bent, Adam Johnson, Leighton Baines, Scott Parker and Michael Dawson would be sidelined along with Walcott.

Capello had spent Tuesday phoning the unlucky seven to break the bad news, but did not conduct face to face meetings.

What's happened to Owen Hargreaves, is he left out because of injury?
