« on: 18:33:23, 24/02/11 »
thought this could be a thread for everyone to post their top ten things to do/places to go in Manchester and reasons why. from favourite places to go for a walk, ride a bike etc to pubs n clubs, places to eat, shops, fitness, anything you want! i'd like to start but i don't move to manchester til June and alot of the places i did enjoy are gone now from when i last lived there, so i'll leave it up to you  ;)

okay i'll have a go at this since i started it, based on what i know already so will probably update it once i move to manc in a few months!

Hair: Joel @ Ethos hairdressers in Chorlton - my sister swears by him so when i was up last summer i had him cut my hair, i'll never go to anyone else now, top bloke, really friendly and great hair cut!

Sweet stuff: Viva in Sale for hot chocolate and tasty cakes! better and cheaper than McStarbucks and the like.

Records: i'd love to say Fat City Records is my fave record shop but sadly it shut down last year :( but there' still a lot of record shops round the northern quarter worth a look in like Eastern Bloc, Picadilly Records and Vinyl Exchange (and another one i forget the name of sorry)

Shopping: i don't really enjoy shopping but Afflecks is always a good experience its full of unique shops and you never know what you might find! the northern quarter in general is great for shopping, there's loads of side streets to get lost in so you always come across some great little shops and cafes.

nature: Fletcher Moss is lovely and there's a cat that wanders about there too! there's some places to eat round the corner (one seafood, one steak) that i've always wanted to go in. if anyone's been let me know if they're any good :) chorlton water park's good for a bike ride.

fish n chips: i have to say The Battered Cod because i'm biased ;)

pub/bar: i don't know much about the pubs n bars in manchester, i prefer traditional-local pubs but don't know of any worth a mention since i don't live there! if anyone has any recommendations, in any area of the city, i'd love to know! i went to Odd Bar in the northern quarter once for something to eat, food was tasty and the staff were friendly, drink was a bit pricey though (but it was a double rum).

i'm struggling with this now so i'll leave it as it is for the moment!

Is Affleck's  Palace somehow connected with the old Affleck & Brown department store?  Not lived in Manchester for 27 years now so am a bit out of the 'scene'!

Yes it is, I googled ;)
The building that housed Affleck and Brown is now known as Affleck's Palace. ...

Hey all! this thread is so helpful!

I do think Afflecks is probably my favourite place in Manchester at the moment, but I am a bit disappointed by the caf!
