I'm sure I've posted my recollections on earlier threads on this topic, so you might want to search around the older posts on this site.  One of my main haunts was 'Placemate'.  Can't quite recall where it was situated, somewhere in Oxford Rd area, but it was one of a number of establishments owned by Ivor Abadi, a Turkish Cypriot.  Many of the restaurants & clubs were owned by Turkish Cypriots in the late 60s early 70's.  My favourite place tho was 'Rafters' on Oxford Rd where they used to serve up free moussaka to the revellers at around midnight.   8)

I know this is an old post :-[ but I've only just read it!  I was in Manchester in the 60's.  I worked in Queen Street and our office was over the top of the Oasis club in Lloyd Street.  When the groups came we could hear them tuning up below us and I would dash around to the next street to see whose autographs I could get.  Herman's Hermits were based there and another local group called the Measles and Manchester Playboys.  I also frequented the Twisted Wheel, Jungfrau (near the Cathedral), Takis, Bodega etc etc.  Another frequented spot was Belle Vue on a Sunday night where Jimmy Savil wad DJ.  I have many happy memories from those days.

All the same clubs that I enjoyed too, Terry, as well as the Manchester Cavern, Heaven and Hell ( a bit weird) and the Boneyard in Bolton. Did you also spend your Saturday afternoons in the Cona or the Mogambo? They were great places for meeting girls and getting invited to parties. Happy days indeed!

I think Heaven and Hell had some sort of religious input. My usual week was the Frau Fridays, Top of the Town Saturdays and Oasis Tuesdays.

Hi beth - I frequented the Top Cat on a fairly regular basis in the sixties.

It was located above the El Bossa Nova club which has been the subject of quite a lot of discusion on this board.

Here it is in 1980.
