I remember the black cat club being near Victoria station, does anybody know the real name of the pub under the station where you could drink on Saturday afternoons? we called it the Vic bar,it might have been a railwaymans club.

Yes, although commonly known as the Vic Bars It was indeed the BRSA club (British Railway Staff Association) on the Station Approach. Closed in 1992.

You would turn right off Victoria Street as if heading up Hunts Bank then do a sharp right again up Walkers Croft which was a dead end at the Vic Bars which extended underneath the Station. There was also a set of steps down to the Vic Bars from opposite Victoria Main Entrance.

The underground area is still there, all gated and locked and bolted, left abandoned.

Anyone remember Tiffany's on Oxford road. I was a doorman there in the early sixties when Paul Rowe was manager. It was upstairs and had its own resident group. Downstairs next door was a cafe known as Nick the Greeks which was open until the early hours. Saville used to go there with his hangers on.

Bill Benny would sell you one for Two Bob

I remember Tiffany's on Oxford Road but we went in the early 1970s.  I remember going up dome stairs to the main room with plastic palm trees?  I had a job waiting on in Tiffanys for a couple of weeks .  Didn't last long  I also had a full time job.

Mr smiths Manchester and London were owned and ran by Frank Booth (my dad) and Paddy McKernan (my godfather). They ran several other clubs in the north and south. I remember them both being interviewed on the radio and being in the papers for being the first people to have topless barmaids in the UK.
Dad used to take me to the club during the day when it was closed. Remember the black walls with animals in white with trumpet like noses, leading into where the round stage was.

Hello Mr. Booth,  I recall 'Mr. Smiths' with great affection.  I played bass guitar with 'Johnny Peters & The J.P.s' in the mid-sixties, as well as other groups before them.  Since we worked for Paddy one of our agents we got into the club free.  It was a nice way to finish a night having done a gig and then popped into the Azad Restaurant near the Apollo where all the groups went for a curry.

The cabarets in 'Mr. Smiths' were fabulous with many world famous entertainers and it was a wonderful time to be alive!

Hi, I used to play in an R&B group in the 1960s called the Manchester Roadrunners played at most of the clubs, Twisted wheel all nighters  were the best, backed the Hollies  e t c.
A strange club was the Spiders Web, I think it was run by a couple of gangsters
and was quite creepy, liked to pack up real quick and get out of the place,
Also played at the Large Sporting clubs, if you were later than 7 pm you would not get a seat, the entertainment was a singer / stripper / and a group, hot pot supper was also on tap, happy days

[/quoteHello all, I remember; The Twisted Wheel, the Oasis the Jungfrau, and Blinkers. There was the Free Trade Hall, is that still around?   I have not lived in the Manchester area for fifty years.
Saw the Rolling Stones, Sony Terry and Brownie McGhee. Booed the Who off the stage at the Palais in Ashton-U-Lyne, they were diabolical. I can only assume bad acid. The Undertakers at Oldham Palais,
Two of us got thrown out of S. Dempsey club; George Best was in that night, with the ladies.]
