it seems  crazy  that  man city moved out of their ground Maine Road,
Im sure the ground could have been developed, much in the way old trafford
has been developed.
How can they leave a ground  with all that history ?
Man U  would never have moved from Old Trafford !

Maine Road was a bit of a hotch potch of different bits added on at different times.  They kept deciding on revamp plans and then stopping; and City kept slipping down the table, even being relegated from the Premier League at one point.  That would make it hard to maintain a big, old ground.  With a new stadium on offer for less than it would have cost to sort the old one out properly, it wasn't sensible to stay put.   The move to Maine Road way back in the 20s was hugely unpopular too.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

I heard rumours a few years back that Stockport County were going to use it, even FC United, or use as a training ground

And Arsene will be having another one of his headaches....... I was reminded of the schoolmaster who thrashed his football team with the cane for winning 13-0 or something, because he said it was ungentlemanly and they should have stopped at 8 or 9.  How British, eh?  ;)

Alas the site where  the Man City ground on Maine road used to be is now a housing estate. You can view the site on Google earth.

Even the old Parkside hotel on Upper LLoyd st near the ground is now flats.  :-\

If they'd won more trophies perhaps it could have been preserved as a museum :-\

the ground was         open terracing, a total of 20 miles of concrete steps. Estimates of the         capacity ranged from 80 to 100,000 and the total cost of building came         to nearly 200,000 pounds,

£200,000.....  thats the cost of a modest night out for Liam and his
mates these days  !!!
how  times have changed.

Still,  its funny that  Liam or  some other pressure group did n't put up
a big fight to stay at Maine Road and develope  things  there  at Maine Road,
which will always be the spiritual home of  Man City .
