I have both films, Hell is a city and a Taste of Honey on DVD. The opening shots of A taste  of Honey were filmed At St. Brigids school in Bradford. You can see the pit shaft of Bradford pit in the background. The shop where Murrey Melvin worked was I think Timpsons shoe shop next to George Glass, both were next to the New Royal cinema. Opposite the New Royal was a pub which if memory serves me right was called the Commercial.
The cast and crew used it as a base during and after filming. This was in the days of fairly strict licensing laws. I had quite a few "Lock ins" after normal closing time when the film was being made. I think that the Landlady, Lillian? must have made a small fortune out of that film.
