Missing topic's & posts?

Either i can't see my last postings on here or they have been removed?
If they have been removed like the rest of other peoples post, why does the person who removed then not let you know this?
Secondly why can we not remove any post our self's? This forum softwear does allow users to do this i know from other forums using the same "Simple machine" forum builder/hosting?

From asking on other Forum sites, the answer to those questions that I got were that firstly, if every poster can edit and delete posts at any time, then threads end up not making sense; and secondly, Mods and Admin have a load of cleaning off spam and escort services and porn posters and the like, and then have to send warnings to members over posts that break the rules, so it just becomes impractical to also email every poster in a deleted thread. 
 
Makes sense, considering that the sites are free and most Mods/Admin bods are volunteers..... I do know what you mean though, about it being a bit disconcerting when something or someone's just gone.

I think not, this is only a forum . Nothing more, nothing less.
 
Like i have said on a few posts i normally refrain from posting off the genealogy board, seem i might even refrain from posting on there now for the fear of my posts going A.W.O.L.
Shame it took a normal member to post a reply befor any administrator/moderator could do this as i know that a moderator had been on line most of yesterday and didn't seem to reply.

Yeah, I was kidding... I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were taking it so seriously and I didn't mean to sound flippant.   My posts were also removed in the deleted threads, and it's not ideal, but it's not personal either.  Unacceptable content has to be removed, and leaving the inoffensive responses wouldn't make any sense.  It's no reflection on us or our posts - we'd get a warning if it was.
 
In fairness, removing a thread is an Admin job, so not really for a Mod to answer you, and Chris runs other sites too, so he's not always online to reply immediately.  He obviously did reply as soon as he read the thread.  You can't say fairer than that, not when the site is free to all of us, doesn't even have any ads, and he and Celeste work fairly hard to get rid of all the dross. 
 
I hope you decide to stick around - nice people with interesting opinions are always an asset.  :)

No need to panic, I have just had the same message and difficulty signing on. I was once told by a friend who has "Friends in high places" that occasionally when there is an increase in Observation and vetting of the web from GCHQ, it slows down the internet for us mere mortals. I have no way of knowing if this is correct or not, but I believe in flying saucers, so who am I to judge.  8)

Blimey, I was overcome when Admin spoke to me.  Not sure I can cope with any more excitement!  ;D

See, that's me NOT getting the thread removed for posting the first three remarks that went through my mind.  :coolsmiley:
 
Tales of alien abduction seem to be dwindling in this age of advanced mobile phones.... maybe the Aliens just use Wikipedia for research in the InterGalacticNet Cafes....  ;)

  You are right, we rarely see any reports of visiting aliens nowadays. Maybe they saw some of our reality tv shows and decided that the earth wasn't for them after all?   How many of us as little as 15 years ago would have known what Wikipedia meant? Or imagined that we would be able to sit at a keyboard and converse instantly with people from all over the world at the press of a button?.   ::)

All those of us who read Asimov, watched Star Trek, listened to Arthur C Clarke..... I'm still waiting for teleportation.  Imagine holidays without the travel.  Blip off to anywhere in the world, suitcase in your hand, no jet lag, no lost pants....
