Hi Everyone
I'm new to this forum..hope you don't mind me joining!

Just wondering if anyone was brought up in Openshaw..maybe you attended Elysian St Primary school?
We lived on North street..which later changed to Parkhouse street.

Such fond memories

Good Morning Shelianz & Celeste! :)

Thankyou for both for your warm welcome.

I found this site fascinating..especially the geneology as I'm researching my family tree.

Now I'd better get off this computer for a bit and go and do some housework!!!...GROAN... :-[

Bye For Now x

Hello.  My late husband grew up in Openshaw and he and his two sisters all attended Elysian Street School.  I know they all have very happy memories of their time there.  They lived on Victoria Street.

Hi Carolg.. :)

If you don't mind me asking..what were their names?..My Dad who has now sadly passed away also grew up in Openshaw & attended Elysian St..I have posted a picture on the Old Schools thread of the class of 1934..my dad is sat at the front...depending on corresponding years your husband or his sisters maybe on it!!!..We were the Tyree family and lived on North St..which later changed to Parkhouse St.

Thankyou for getting in touch... O0

Hi Hazel.  Sadly it seems that your dad was older then my husband and his sisters and you are younger.  Do you remember any other names from your Elysian Street days?  I didn't attend this school, but I went to Central Openshaw Methodist Church and know quite a few people from there and as friends of my husband and his family.

Hi Again!

The only family I knew on Victoria St were the Blackshaws...can't remember the parents names..but they had 3 daughters...2 of them were called Tracey & Fiona...Other families in the area were the Dixons...the Shores...the Marsdens...the Watsons...the Parrys...the Seniors...I remember a piece of waste ground facing the houses on Victoria St...We called it the Piggy...and always had the local bonfire on there...Harry who owned the shop in Staton St always provided Treacle Toffee & lots of goodies for us kids!! ;) ...perhaps you might remember The Potters who had the corner shop top of Hovis St?...Me & my friend used to drool over one of their sons! ;D ...and Barry Potter played in a band with my brother David...I'll email my brother & see if he remembers you...he's a lot older than me...so you never know!!!

Cheerio for Now!!!

My brother in law was from Openshaw. He moved to Australia in the 70s.

I have family who are Blackshaws, but they were from Miles Platting. Their was a lot of them.
