Robin Gibb
« on: 08:43:00, 21/05/12 »
So sad to hear that Robin Gibb has passed away. The Gibbs have strong ties with Manchester and I think we tend to think of them as our own lads.
I never had the chance to see them perform but have quite a few  albums of their timeless music.
The closest I ever got was passing the brothers once in Manchester during the years that Maurice was married to Lulu.At that time Lulu was in pantomime at the Palace I think.
I worked at Redpath in Trafford Park and met an uncle of theirs. He was so proud of them.
I know that there are quite a few of you on here who woriked in the music industry. I wonder if you have any stories of robin or his brothers that you are able to share with us as a kind of tribute to this sad loss.
RIP Robin . Our kind thoughts to all the family at this difficult time.

R.I.P. Robin
Great singer, great group - I can see him now singing 'Massachusettes'

I love that song too. Whenever I hear 'Saved by the bell', it always reminds me of a caravan holiday in Prestatyn when I was about 12.

The vinyl is fine Mel - it's when you drag out the white flares that we will all pretend we don't know you......

My Mum is all upset about Robin.  I think it's a shame he died in such a slow and horrible way.  I wish him peace now, at least.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

yeah cancers terrible, my dad died just before christmas after a 2 and a half year battle with it. its a long, slow,  painful battle, but then at the end its pretty quick
mi dad went from visiting us up here, going shopping, meal at the pub etc..........2 weeks after he was dead, good job he managed to get up when he did

I myself tend  to prefere their 60s songs ,

....In the 60s.. ... ...Words, Spicks and Specks ,New York Mining Disaster ,To Love Somebody ,Massachusetts,World,Gotta Get A Message To You , I Started A Joke ..etc.loved all those.

I remember working at F Ellis and Co Miles Platting ...we are all seated in the Canteen and over the Loudspeaker came the song Words, all the young ones starting singing and it was lovely to see a whole bunch of teenagers singing at the top of their voices...We thought we ruled the world then . :)
Funny how the time goes...x
