Tourism in Manchester
« on: 18:05:39, 12/09/12 »
Manchester often dubbed the "original modern" or the "capital of the North" is a pretty famous city but....

What do you think of the way that Manchester is marketed as a tourist destination? are the best parts sold enough? and what do you think of phrases such as the original modern and I <3 MCR?

How would you choose to sell Manchester to tourists if it was up to you ???

i look forward to any comments.      Back in the 50,s the manchester evening news issued flyers listing  our good points, [which i passed out all over n. america.] and now we have a fantastic airport to set the ball rolling.
Politicians and nappies must be changed often, and for the same reason

I don't see how you can market the individuality and diversity of Manchester via an agency that only allows members who pay inflated fees to buy expensive advertising space in the "official" marketing and only allows one ad layout, so every page is an identical, dreary, repetitive splat.

I don't see how an agency that routinely picks the pockets of the businesses it is supposed to serve can possibly foster tourism for anyone but the big boys.  All you get is a bunch of suits talking political non-speak amongst themselves and spending the budget on developing exclusive typefaces and ever less interesting logos.  And a nice sideline in soaking up venue commissions.....

I'd like to see an independent publication, with reasonably priced and flexible advertorial features - online or hard copy - and a bright, friendly campaign that showed all of Manchester.  It would also be quite nice if certain people could now stop going on about the Commonwealth Games.  They were brilliant, but it's a long time ago now.....

But that's just me.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.
