Re-enactment group
« on: 21:49:31, 15/10/12 »
Hello Manchester

Have you ever considered medieval re-enactment, well if you have and you are in the Manchester area then you are in luck.
I am from a society called Historia Normannis and we specialise in re-enacating the 12th century Norman period of British history.

We have a group here in Manchester training on Sundays in Whitworth park, there you can usually find us training our combat skills but that is not all that we are about.
In Normannis you could learn a variety of skills including woodwork, smithing, fletching, sewing, weaving and much more as well as all the fun of combat skills and living the life of the Normans of the time.
You could also take part in shows in some amazing locations.

Interested? simply P.M me here or you could find us at our training location at the park and collar one of us :)

That rings a bell.  Think we've had a previous bod from Normannis on here...... I seem to recall looking up the website he mentioned....  ???

No, it wasn't him I was thinking of - I'd have recalled his name.  Oh, isn't it infuriating when you half remember things?!  ;D

Nope.  I finally got off my bum and searched it out and it was last August (2011) in a thread called "Re-enactment in Manchester and Wigan" - although the name given in the post was Dan, so maybe the same bloke with two screen names? At least I am happy now!   ;)

The one I was thinking of, and searched up, was from August 2011, made by NormannisManchester, who signed himself Dan too.  The link you posted is from Feb 2010 made by Blackthorn.   I think that was before my time here?  Persistent lot, anyway!!   ;D

This is his post: 4.8.11

Hi everyone,
Basically I'm looking for people in and around the Manchester and Wigan areas up for trying their hand at reenactment. Just to make it clear, it's not LARP- nobody is dressing up as elves or shouting ''forsooth'', we're a group of guys who enjoy the competitive combat side, and portray history from 12th century England- this involves doing local fairs and events, going into schools, and large-scale events for people like English Heritage.
We train in Manchester itself, and have another sister group in Wigan. If it sounds like something you might want to have a go at- if you've ever been interested in Medieval history, martial arts, or even am-dram, it could be the thing for you.
Anyone interested can message me, e-mail me, or go through the website, which has a bit more information-
www.normannis.co.uk
Well guys, thanks for your time,
-Dan

I don't think one invitation per year counts as harrassment..... ;D   I can't say I've ever felt the urge to experience first-hand the days before flushable plumbing, but I did look up the website Dan mentioned and it actually quite impressed me.  The point of a Forum is that there's room for everyone's interests, so please do feel free to post us an update from the battle lines now and then.  ;)

I shall read it with interest.  Nothing so fascinating as other people's quirks.   ;)
