Thanks. I don't know the building but will look out for it next time I'm down that way. Who knows, it might have been demolished by then! ;)

Hehe, doubtful cos it's only a couple of years old - but, we can always hope!  O0

Have not been to manchester for a few years now, was born in St Mary's hospital on Oxford road in 1969, to be honest the wall at piccadilly gardens needs to go,
but would rather they kept the old buildings and forced the owners to keep them in good repair
The arndale looks so much better now its had a makover

Fortunately, a fair number of the old Victorian stuff has been retained. One of my favourites is the chop house on Cross Street - I can never remember which it is - Tom's or Sam's. I think it's Tom's. The other chop house (?Sam's) is good inside too - they now have a full sided bronze statue of L S Lowry sat at the bar! Lovely steak and kidney pud too.

Went to a few airline 'do's' at Sam's Chop House, Air India used to hold them there for airport staff, I think they always used the basement.

I think Manchester is better than it has ever been - with the exception of the Piccadilly area.
The Corpy should own up and admit the redevelopment of the area was a disaster and start again. Most visitors arriving by train come into Piccadilly station and walk down into one of the few open 'piazzas' in the city to find a run down square which is frankly intimidating, brutalist architecture worthy of Stalinist Russia and a death trap of buses, taxis, trams and cars.
See what happens when i leave my county .... the city centre goes all bloody pearshaped intimidating brutalised andthat's just the architecture wont be long before the citizens following suit I don't think the city center could cope with intimidating brutalised citizens mixed in with the architecture, it will frighten the xmas shoppers and santas reindeers. Wtchy do something can't you chant any pagan curses or summat? Arthur write a travelogue of our city extolling its virtues Start a 'grand tour' Like they did in Italy or whereever it were consisiting of the best artistes poets etc etc. celeste you and cupcake must start a campaign role on the revolution :P I'll try and organise things from my end where we are all far more genteel I can however spy on France from Dover through a telescope and see if their citizens look as brutalised as ours not to mention their architecture :o

Excellent post Julie, I'm sure Cupcake will be on the case as soon as, Arthur can compose a protest poem, Wytchy - when he arrives back - I believe he said he was 6'2" and full of muscle will know how to apply pressure I'm sure  8)  - is he from Down Under? ;)

sounds fun but I am very concerned I mean non of you look brutalised on your posts so that's somewhat reassuring O0 In the mean time I will contiue my observation from Dover to calias providing I have enough old pennnies for the telescope. You kow those with King George on them I always felt reassured by those pennies he looked so stoic and the pennies seemed so substantial
