From a photographic point of view, Manchester's historic sites (eg. Castlefield) and marvellous old buildings in and around the city would make this one of the top cities of interest for me personally.  Shame about the Arndale, but still plenty of other architecture to admire.

Most of my photography is of the older buildings in the city centre, Ancoats with its mills is an excellent location although a few alterations have taken place over the years.  I mentioned Castlefield before as well, that's another favourite of mine along the canal.  I'd also recommend St. Peter's Square, plenty of great architecture here and work my way up towards Piccadilly.  I would like to eventually take some pictures of Cheetham Hill Road as it is today starting from Trinity Way, as there have been a number of new developments built here.  I don't know if they could be described as scenic not having visited for a good many years, but fascinating I'd say.

What about Redbank/Angel Meadow area and the river valley around there? Would've thought some good photography available around there, mixture of old industrial,  Victorian and parkland type stuff.

The whole length of Whitworth Street West / Whitworth Street from Deansgate to London Road is Victorian building after Victorian building, wonderful!
