Less congestion in London as drivers don't put up with nonsense.

The Chinese have a saying..."It's easy to see the splinter in another man's eye, and miss completely the log in your own."

Really, if Manchester is so bad, why not stand for office? Why not get elected and change things for the better....why not do something constructive rather than stand on the sidelines bitching about anything and everything that doesn't happen to suit. How about taking control of your life and how you choose to spend it!

From a distance, Manchester has little to worry about. If you want to know what street crime is, go to Johannesburg, if you want to experience a city's failure to care for it's residence through lack of planning, go to Cape Town. If you feel less than two hundred homeless people in a city of millions is too much, visit almost any city in Asia.

Discovering this forum has reminded me of one of the reasons I no longer live in Manchester, or the UK for that matter....the ingrained negativity. That might have something to do with the crappy climate, or the over-populated towns and cities. But quality of life depends as much on your attitude as it does you circumstances.

I must agree with you about the negativity in this country  ,there are many reasons for this too long to put on here , but one thing is frustration that when there is a chance to change things it doesn’t happen ,two recent events prove this  the vote for a mayor in Manchester and brexit ,

Wow here's the earnings lists, yet they can not afford to collect bins once per week

What Greater Manchester council chief executives are paid:BOLTON – Sean Harriss £170,000
BURY – Mike Kelly £147,822
MANCHESTER – Sir Howard Bernstein £203,934*
OLDHAM – Charlie Parker £177,364*
ROCHDALE – Jim Taylor £130,000
SALFORD – Barbara Spicer £175,096
STOCKPORT – Eamonn Boylan £170,051
TAMESIDE – Steven Pleasant £166,929
TRAFFORD – Theresa Grant £155,000
WIGAN – Donna Hall £165,000

An extra charge on this year's council tax bill has been agreed to pay for Greater Manchester's mayor.

Householders will be charged an average of £7 annually to pay for ]Andy Burnham's £110,000 salary
, as well as his transport and housing plans.

The precept, agreed unanimously at a meeting of all ten council leaders, will also pay the £730,000 cost of running his office including his wages.
he Taxpayers' Alliance described the council tax rise as "pretty bad news".

Most people in Greater Manchester were not aware they would have to pay between £6 and £18 to have an elected mayor, the group claimed.

"It's been snuck up on quite a few Mancunians that was not really announced before," said the group's policy analyst Duncan Simpson.

"On the face of it, it does not seem a particularly amount of money.
"But there is no requirement for him to raise taxes.

"One should be very sceptical about the introduction of these taxes when the burden of council tax on all Manchester householders is already very high."

I thought Bernstein had retired :-\

Handing themselves such big sums knowing it has to be accepted, and goodness knows what money they retire on, if they do retire - maybe their salaries should be capped, yes I know 'pigs can fly'
All that's necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing

You can bet that the "precept" won't be £7 next year, but I fully expected Burnham to shaft the working people of Manchester, after all he's a Westminster politician pretending to give a toss for us Northerners, don't trust him, they have only mentioned the North since the referendum and now all the main parties are scrambling to admit that we have been neglected up here for too long.
   Crocodile tears.
