  • Protest is held in Salford over NHS reforms Keep Our NHS Public Protesters said the reforms would lead to "disaster"
  • NHS changes come into force
  • NHS staff prepare for major changes
  • Demo over NHS sell off proposals
  • About 50 people have held a protest in Salford over the government's NHS reforms.
The changes, which came into force on Tuesday, mean GPs will choose how to spend health budgets and private companies will have a greater role in providing care.
The government said it will enable the NHS to improve.
Campaigners Keep Our NHS Public, which organised the protest at Mediacity UK, said it could lead to "disaster".
Hugh Caffrey, of Greater Manchester's Keep Our NHS Public, said: "Every public service that's been privatised has got worse as a result.
"We think handing over the NHS will mean more disasters and mean it being run for profit not care of patients."
Health Minister Anna Soubry said previously that the reforms will enable the NHS to "improve, work smarter and, importantly, build an NHS that delivers high quality, compassionate care for patients".

More significantly would the party who is opposed to this reverse it if they get into power?

Cameron has to get a full part agreement yet I think and it may possibly have to go to the house of lords.

    Dear John

Your NPF representatives would like to invite you to have your say on how you think Labour can develop our policies for 2015 on the 'Future of our NHS' at a Policy Forum in Manchester on Saturday 20th April.

Andy Burnham gave an important speech last month outlining his vision for the future of NHS care centered on the holistic needs of patients, bringing together healthcare, including mental healthcare, and social care, and with a new role for district general hospitals at its heart. He called it “whole person care”. You can read Andy’s speech at http://www.labour.org.uk/andy-burnhams-speech-to-the-kings-fund-whole-person-care.

The event will last from 10am until 1pm, we will also be joined by local Government Health Scrutiny members from Liverpool and Manchester to help facilitate the event.

If you'd like to come, please email [email protected]. Places are limited and will be on a first come first served basis! We will email you the venue and further details once you have signed up.

    Best wishes,
    Joanne Harding

Please give me any strongly held views, the least I can do is pass them on. [email protected]

I think he lacks gravitas although I do like him, Alistair Darling is the man for the job in my mind.  8)

Yes he was but  the damage had already been done, politics, don't it drive you crazy. I think Blair new the bubble was going to burst, Brown was promised PM's job. Alistair was left holding the baby.

Just my view no more important than anybody else's, smart I ain't although I try to give the illusion  that I am.  8)

I'm 'a' political at the moment, I would be amused to see all four parties get more or less equal votes - what would happen then? :D
