Rissoles
« on: 10:45:17, 30/05/13 »
Had some mince in the freezer and thought i'd have a go at a staple food from my childhood, trouble is I don't have the recipe, my Mother used to make them with a combination of mince & sage & onion, that's as much as I remember, there are a few online but none resemble the ones I ate as a growing kid, any ideas ?.

Me Too loved them, my mother also used grated bread or bread crumbs. coated with plenty of flower to stop them sticking. And idea of my own, if they don't want to bind together an egg white..........Who needs women.........LOL.............I do............. ;)
Please I don't require moral guidance, well perhaps a little..

Exactly !! ,who's going to clear up the mess, that a mere male inflicts on the kitchen , when he's in 'Chef mode' ?  ::)

As a postscript, the rissoles must be accompanied with chips and HP sauce and there need be enough to make a sandwich the following day.. O0

Definitely mince, breadcrumbs and onions, but I can't quite get the taste right.  I have a feeling they were cooked on a hot pan in a bit of butter and that's what's missing.  You can never go back though, can you?  Memory always adds a glow you can't replicate.

Decided I will jump in with both feet, will nip out for a packet of Paxo and report back later this evening with my results,If they are a success I may consider marketting them to the World. 'Manchester Burger' sounds good to me  8)

RIP the rissole :( ,

it was an unmitigated disaster, having decided to put the sage & onion into the mixture dry,  it hardened once I started frying ,   worried that the middle would be uncooked I continued 'cooking' till the smoke alarm went off !!  :o , I was left with  4 charred lumps of meat , my other half rushed in before I had chance to jettison them into the bin, having convinced her that this is how I remembered them she insisted that I ate one  :-[ ,

Whilst she sat down to a plate of corned beef & chips, garnished with tomatoes (thought I'd push the boat out) I was left to chew and chew and chew till I thought it safe to swallow  :-\ , my poor Mother must be spinning in her grave......oh well Friday is takeaway night  O0

I asked my Mum.  She said she bought them in a box from the Co-op and thinks they were Bird's Eye.   Another childhood memory all squished.....  ;D

Oh dear Lord!  :o  I can definitely say that the last thing I am ever going to do with a pig's foot is fry it and eat it..... I thought kebab shops were bad enough!
