Manchester United's long-serving receptionist, who David Beckham said was "always smiling", has been honoured with a Service to Football Award.

Kath Phipps joined the Red Devils under legendary manager Sir Matt Busby and has been a firm favourite with staff and players for the following 54 years.

The 81-year-old said it was "a great honour" to be recognised by the League Managers Association on Tuesday.

A mountain climber thought to be the first British Muslim to scale Mount Everest said his achievement had "still not sunk in yet".

Akke Rahman, from Oldham, began the trek while fasting for Ramadan, reaching the summit on 13 May.

It was an eventful mission after he fell down a crevasse and missed celebrating Eid with his family.

But he described the beauty when he reached the top of Everest as "just beyond".

Mr Rahman, who raised more than £80,000 for Orphans Shelter Foundation, began his ascent during Ramadan.

This meant he had been fasting for nearly two weeks before setting off and continued to do so on and off during the early days of his trek.

"It really, really slowed me down," he said.

"My mouth was so dry you could light a match on it."

Animal rights activists 'sprayed with cow poo' after crashing beef expo in Durham
ANIMAL RIGHTS activists have been "sprayed with manure" as hordes of angry farmers confront them over a protest at Britain's largest beef industry event, the campaign group has claimed. :2funny:

O0  Like it, and much smellier than a water cannon, can we have the 'cow poo cannon' deployed at future XR, BLM protests in future.  ;D

The Duke of Cambridge has been spotted in central London quietly helping to sell Big Issue magazines.

Retired Met Police Ch Supt Matthew Gardner shared photos of Prince William on Rochester Row, in Westminster, on his social media account.

He said his brother-in-law, Richard Hannant, had seen what he thought was a celebrity and took a distanced photo.

Prince William then crossed the road and spoke to Mr Hannant while wearing the iconic Big Issue uniform.

The magazine is sold by homeless people, long-term unemployed people, and those who need money to avoid getting into debt, the Big Issue says.

Vendors are given five free magazines, which are then sold to the public for £3, with additional copies bought for £1.50.

Sixth form student Grace Ellis, 17, completed her last exam at East Norfolk Sixth Form College in Gorleston, Norfolk, just before 3.00pm on Thursday, 9 June, and made her way over to Norwich City’s Carrow Road stadium for the Killers gig.

She’d made a banner begging the band to let her ‘play drums for 'Reasons Unknown’', knowing The Killers have a tradition for allowing a member of the band to help with their 2007 song.
   Well done young lady. 👏

A cat that went missing from its home in Dorset 10 years ago has been reunited with its owner after being found 260 miles away.

Chubbs disappeared from his family home in Weymouth in 2012, leaving his owner Donna Gallacher distraught.

The tabby was found in Greater Manchester and taken to a vets where a microchip revealed his true owner.

Ms Gallacher, who searched for him for years, said she never gave up hope of finding him.

The story was originally revealed in the Dorset Echo after the cat was found in the market town of Ashton-in-Makerfield.

Hedgehog rescuer Kelly told the BBC she regularly spotted Chubbs following schoolchildren around when she dropped her daughter off at school in the mornings.

"I thought at first it was someone's pet following them instead of turning around," she said.

A farm in East Cheshire is giving away its bumper crop of honeyberries for free "to help the local community".
John Salt, manager of Norseman Farm in Chelford, said the site had experienced a "really strong crop this year - much more than last year".

"It was much more than we anticipated," he added.
The farm, which has about 25,000 honeyberry plants, is inviting the public to pick their first punnet of fruit for free until 25 June.

I must admit, I’ve never heard of honeyberries.
