More than 100 asylum seekers have been given rooms in a £125-a-night  hotel that has hosted Premier League footballers.
The families will stay in the hotel until alternative accommodation is found – and the bill for the taxpayer could be as much as £300,000.
They are expected to remain at the 50-bedroom Amblehurst Hotel in Sale, which has hosted parties for Manchester United players, for at least nine weeks.

The local authority said it was given only 48 hours’ notice about the arrival of the 31 families – a total of 104 asylum seekers.
It criticised Serco, the private firm appointed by the Government to organise such accommodation, describing it as ‘incompetent’.
Councillor Matthew Colledge, leader of Tory-controlled Trafford Council in Greater Manchester, said the situation was ‘frankly ludicrous’, adding: ‘I have asked, along with partners from the NHS, for the decision to be deferred, but this is not to be.’

  • He expressed concern over the sudden strain that would be put on already stretched services, saying: ‘I recognise that some asylum seekers are escaping from appalling situations, and that may include the children arriving in Trafford.

'However, with schools and GP surgeries full in the Sale area I question the logic of choosing this location.’

Taxpayers’ groups branded the hotel stay a colossal waste of money on an ‘expensive quick fix’.
A note on the hotel entrance states: ‘Dear all, please note the hotel is closed until further notice to all general public. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.’

The families had been housed in Liverpool before a huge influx of asylum seekers into the city.

The hotel bill, with food, could run to as much as £293,750.
Resident Gina McIntyre, 55, said: ‘What about all the local people who are homeless? They are  not put up in a plush hotel … at taxpayers’ expense.’
Serco said the families ‘will be found further housing throughout the North West of England’ pending the outcome of their asylum claims.

I think the decision by the owners of Amblehurst to accommodate these, "Asylum seekers" could backfire on them. I have taken many people to this hotel in the past. I have even had a meal there myself.  The hotel is on Brooklands Rd, a fairly affluent area of Sale where some of the houses cost in the high hundreds of thousands of pounds. I certainly would not want to go back there again in the future, and I doubt I am alone in thinking this.

The owners may have been pressured into it :-\

I thought it was on Washway Road in Sale, are you thinking of the Normanhurst?

I expect a lot of people would have booked Christmas and New Year meals too

The catering must be a nightmare, I hope there is a lot of truth in this Mail story.     Because this week ,a pal sent me a 10 min. U Tube film,it was anti Obama/Muslim, wherein he visits a Mosque, which I know is ST. Sophias church, now unused but the Muslim scripts can still be seen, a tourist attraction for many years. Its been on TV this week.

If it's happening in places all over the country that's a lot of £300,000/£400,000 of taxpayers' money spent :o

Yes you are right Celeste, my apologies.  I was getting confused between the two hotels. I have also been to the Amblehurst on Washway Rd, It's very popular with people from out of town who come to watch United. I wonder what will happen to them? It's usually pretty fully booked up on match days.

No need to apologise Adsum, I wouldn't be surprised if the Normanhurst gets used as well if the 'powers that be' need more accommodation - don't forget the influx (not asylum seekers) due to arrive in January

I find the hostility in that article disturbing.  104 people booked into a Hotel in Sale wouldn't raise an eyebrow - most wedding parties are bigger than that.  Nor will it cost £300K - that's rack rate on the rooms plus catering, when a nine week buyout of the place would get you rock bottom prices.  I believe the law should change and I believe the system is lousy, but I don't know why there's such prejudice against these people though.  When I was a child, we were very hard up indeed, and I know for certain that if my Dad had thought there was a better life for us and more opportunities for his kids by migrating, then he'd have done it.  As a decent man looking out for his family, he'd have done it.   Wouldn't anyone?  ???

D'y'know Cups I have thought the exact same about my parents. And I have asked myself would we have done it for our family. Yes we would. Why don't the United nations go into these countries and sort them out? Make those Eastern Countries behave them selves.
There but for the grace of god etcetc.......

It's the EU clowns that need sorting.  Uncapped migration?  Limitless stupidity!  And as for asylum seekers, does nobody realise that banning them from working automatically makes them a burden on the taxpayer, whereas allowing people to earn a living whilst they wait for a decision would cost less and make them less likely to run off?   ???

You can't blame people for the fact that the system is useless.  You have to fix the system.  Opt out of the EU migration policy.  Let asylum seekers work and pay their way.  It's not flaming rocket science!

Nobody in there right mind could possibly object to genuine asylum seekers coming here. However if they were in genuine fear of their lives, surely it would make more sense to claim asylum in the first safe country they reached?

Neither can anyone be blamed for wanting a better life and future for their loved ones. This country has a proud record of welcoming people from overseas who have something to contribute, to come here. What this Government has failed to recognise is that by allowing virtually anyone to come here without adequate means of support, the country is sinking into a third world country. don't tell me otherwise. I have seen so much of what is happening in recent years. I repeat, it's not the peoples fault for coming here, it's the systems fault for allowing so many so quickly.

Have a look at the article below. It's not only one of the usual scare stories from the Daily Mail, it's well documented. You can expect much more of this next year when the floodgates open.

Sadly, the ONLY people who don't agree that free migration is idiotic are the bunch of twerps who meet in Brussels and have their heads so firmly up their own derrieres that they voted it in because it means they don't have to remember to get visas for their cleaners!  >:(

The funny thing is. I used to be outraged years ago when I read that Rumanians were treated like Pariah's whenever they moved to other European countries. I have changed my tune considerably in the last few years after witnessing first hand on lots of occasions how these people operate. The sad thing is I also met a few Rumanians who came here and held down jobs in sandwich bars and hotels who were decent people, but who were ostracised because of their fellow countrymen/women's dishonesty.

I didn't appreciate being judged at times by our various representative lager louts, football hooligans, drunken tourists, 18-30 filth, benefit scroungers.......  Prejudice is always ugly and unfair to the majority.
