Corrie actress in drink/driving arrest
« on: 20:42:20, 28/03/14 »
Coronation Street actress Barbara Knox was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, it has emerged.

Ms Knox, 80, who plays Rita Tanner in the ITV soap, was held at a police station in Knutsford, Cheshire, on 10 March.

She had gone there after her daughter, Maxine Ashcroft, 56, was earlier arrested for the same offence.

Her daughter has since been charged with "driving when the alcohol level was above the limit".

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "Police stopped a car in Hollow Lane, Knutsford, and a 56-year-old woman from Gloucestershire was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

"An 80-year-old woman from Knutsford arrived at Knutsford police station and was also arrested on suspicion of drink-driving. She was bailed pending further inquiries."

A Coronation Street spokeswoman said the arrest was a personal matter.

You wouldn't find that in a Corrie script.

Two people who should know better but don't. Perhaps we should just be glad they didn't kill anyone.

Instant Karma - a soap actress storming down the nick to demand the release of her guilty daughter and ending up in the next cell.  That's where ego gets you!
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

I find it really disturbing that so many people consider themselves fit to drive after drinking.  There should be a public awareness campaign spelling out exactly how little it takes to be over the safe limit.

I have been guilty many times of drink driving over the years.  :o Not a lot, usually one or 2 pints if I was driving. However I have always believed there should be zero tolerance when driving. Any alcohol in your system if driving should be illegal. I have no idea if I was over the limit or not. If the law stated no alcohol when driving, instead of 31mgs or whatever it is. I would have known for sure I was breaking the law if I had a drink then drove.

I don't think they could do that - you can't prosecute someone for minute traces from their morning mouthwash, for example.  I do think most people are ignorant of what the legal limit actually mean in terms of how much you can drink though.

That's probably not a bad idea, telling young drivers there's no tolerance at all.  We see a lot of young people hurt or killed in accidents where the driver is late teens and has been out drinking.    My nephew won't drink after 9pm if he is driving the next day, never mind the same night and I think that's a very good attitude.
It's nice to be important, but it's also important to be nice.

I have known a couple of drivers who have been breathalysed the following morning after a drinking session drinking session the night before, who have lost their licence's. it's just not worth taking a chance.

I get the impression that there is far less drinking and driving than there used to be so the "Breathaliser" must be working. It is still happening so there is work yet to be done.

The same unfortunately can't be said for phone usage and texting whilst driving. I see it all the time and wonder why the Police don't.
I suppose it's a fact of life that death appears to be acceptable "on the road".
If it wasn't we would ban cars.

Big fines here if you   use a phone, leave your belt off
ignore traffic signs or lights whilst driving on Public Roadway
.You must always carry your licence and insurance.
Daresay there are lots of rules that get ignored but
the Traffic police come down heavy if you are caught...
